Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of door. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body and allow them to rotate an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.
Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is essential; it depends on the way your door and handle are used. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with an extra secure cylinder, while internal doors can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.
To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. It is crucial to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.
The majority of modern cylinders have been constructed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. They are designed to decrease the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This will help deflect the attack, and protect your door.

Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned within the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution that returns your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after using. These handles used to have no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This component is the best way to solve this issue. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position as they aren't easy to close manually.
These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint lock. They are not compatible with unsprung handles, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the backplate of the door handle for various brands of uPVC doors. They are fitted with a square cut-out that can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and they are supplied individually.
